An evening of “Dervishes and contemporary Arabic music” brought together musicians from Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon to the tunes of the mother of all instruments, the qanun, with the piano and other musical instruments, that filled the halls of the Hussein Cultural Centre. Accompanied by dance, the music conducted human emotions to the pinnacle of spirituality.

The evening’s performance harmonized tunes from Taoufiq Mirkhan’s qanun, Zina Asfour’s piano, Naser Salameh’ s percussions and Ahmad Khatib’s dance, producing a unique Occidental and Oriental blend.

The high level of spirituality and purity of sound were two of the evening’s distinctive characteristics. The concept of this concert was conceived by the pianist Zina Asfour after  attending various Dervish performances in Turkey and Syria.
